They would take along their televisions, their liquor cabinets, and all sorts of electronic appliances. Basically, there seemed to be no point to it. Why go off into the woods and bring the city along with you? Still, I found out that just because you have a camping trailer doesn’t mean that you have to live like you’re at home. Of course, going to RV parks is out of the question because people are crowded in so closely that there is no way to get any solitude. Still, there are plenty of places to take camping trailers that are off the beaten path. If you have a good car and a light trailer, you can actually get to some pretty isolated spots up in the mountains. Of course, you can’t go to these places all year. The roads get icy, and it can be pretty dicey to drive while hauling a camping trailer! Still, if you are creative, you can find a way to get away from it all. I have been taking vacations with the camping trailer for a few years, and my back is starting to feel better. I hope that soon I will be able to start hiking again, although I doubt I will be able to take those long trips I used to. Still, it has been nice to have the camping trailer in the meantime. Without some way to get off into the woods, I don’t think I would have been able to stay sane!

A lot of people think the camping in Michigan is boring. I grew up in Michigan, in fact, and I still had this perception. Sure there are the Great Lakes, but the whole state is flat. Let’s face it. Michigan is one vast wasteland of urban sprawl. Nonetheless, even the Great Lakes State has its areas of unspoiled wilderness. There are plenty of good campgrounds in Michigan if you know where to look. The best place to camp in Michigan, of course, is on one of the Great Lakes. There are plenty to choose from. Personally, I have always loved to camp on Lake Superior. Most people don’t think about the upper Peninsula when they consider camping in Michigan, but it is really one of the best spots. When I reached the age of 16, I went on my first serious camping trip in Michigan. My dad took me, actually. We went way up north and camped together for about a week. It was one of the best times that I have ever had. Camping in Michigan with my father was like no other adventure. I had never realized that he had a spirit of adventure at all. He is such a workaholic, you see, that it did not occur to me that he can cut loose and have fun too. But fun we had! Of course, many of the campsites in Michigan are not very well maintained. If you are in the back woods like me and my father were, this is just something that you have to deal with. Camping in Michigan is definitely a mixed bag. You can look at various trail guides and tour books, but the only way to really figure out the best places to camp in Michigan is to consult an expert. Someone who knows the area is ideal. If you don’t have someone like that to talk to, you’ll just have to take what you get. Nonetheless, it is worth it. Some of my very best memories are of camping in Michigan. The flat, monotonous terrain does not matter when you have the Great Lakes in front of you. It is every bit as beautiful and majestic as the ocean if you ask me. You can sail, kayak, canoe, or even swim. I have gone camping in Alaska, California, Ohio, and Ontario. My camping trips in Michigan, however, still holds my best memories.

When I first moved to Maine, I was not thrilled about the idea. You see, my job was relocating to the East Coast. I had grown up on the West Coast, and have become quite accustomed to it. There are campgrounds in Maine practically everywhere. In a lot of areas, you have to get camping reservations if you want to spend a few days in the great outdoors. Not so in Maine! You can almost always find an open campground in Maine. Even campgrounds in Bar Harbor – one of the busiest places in the state – are pretty frequently open. You can go to a Maine national Park practically any time you want and stay there for a week or two. Because Maine is not one of the most popular tourist destinations, the campgrounds in Maine tend to be in pretty good condition. Although, on occasion, I have seen a campground in Maine that has been trashed by some inconsiderate visitor, in general this is not the case. Most people who go to campgrounds in Maine are interested in keeping them in shape! One of the things I like best about camping in Maine is the wildness and beauty of the environment. There are rocky shores, misty mornings, dramatic waves, and a sparse and majestic beauty that you don’t see most places. You can pick wild rose hips right off the coast! Camping in Maine can require a little bit of preparation, but it is always worth it. Even if you are going to campgrounds in Maine in the middle of the summer, you need to remember to bring along some warm clothes just in case. The weather can change much quicker than you would imagine in Maine, so it is best to always be prepared! As long as you take adequate precautions, however, you will have a great time going to Maine campgrounds. I know I have enjoyed it for the past two years. Outdoor activities in Maine are probably my favorite part of living there. There really is nothing that beats it.
