Live In a Tent

My husband is an outdoor enthusiast. He loves to do anything that allows him to be outside. He does all of our yard work. He will spend hours weeding the flower garden in the evenings when he comes home from work. He likes doing this because he can be outside. On the weekends he is hunting and fishing and camping. Many times I go along with him on different camping trips, but other times he goes with friends or by himself. During hunting season I usually only see him in the evenings after work because he is gone on the weekends. Outdoor activities require many supplies. My husband receives catalogs from several different outfitters because of the merchandize he has purchased through the years. He is always on the look out for discount camping gear. The camping equipment seems to wear out the fastest due to the extreme conditions he camps in. I have found that the best time to find discount camping gear is at the end of a season. Most of the stores display and sell camping equipment during the spring and summer months. The equipment takes up display room as well as storage space, so at the end of the season they would just as soon move the merchandize out of the store rather than store it. Last year at the end of the season I found a great tent as well as new sleeping bags. This discount camping gear was at a department store. The sporting goods stores that sell camping equipment year round rarely run clearance sales like the department stores do. This particular department store needed to get rid of the camping gear to make room for a display for holiday items. Because department stores change the items they sell with the seasons many great deals can be found. Discount camping gear is also available through private parties. There is some used equipment that is worthwhile purchasing, however major things that are needed to be able to run a camp such as the cook stove and tents should be in good working condition and free of leaks. No matter how expensive a tent is it will start to leak after long periods of time exposed to the elements. Tent sealer is something that we have on hand always. I have found that I can camp through most any conditions as long as I am able to stay dry. There is nothing worse than being wet because it is difficult to get warm. I am usually the first peron to volunteer to seal the tent each spring so that we are protected from the rain.

One of the biggest sources of unhappiness in our society is that people think that you can’t live well without having a lot of money. Because of this, a lot of folks work long hours so that they can spend their money on extravagant vacations. They will find ways to even make camping holidays expensive, taking tours to exotic locations instead of enjoying the camping sites around them. The truth is that with a little basic outdoors knowledge, you can go to some beautiful campsites no matter where you live. You can enjoy nature, see some spectacular views, and feel good about the fact that you’re saving money while doing it. Of course, it is easy for me to say this. I grew up taking camping holidays. My parents never went on those expensive camping holiday trips – the ones guided by tour guides in foreign countries. They knew enough about the woods that they could get around pretty much anywhere they wanted to go. We even took camping holidays to exotic destinations like Australia and New Zealand. Basically, the cost was low no matter where we went. All we had to do was pay for transportation, and the rest would practically be free. When you are new to outdoor activities, of course, you do have to invest a little bit of money. Your first camping holiday will be somewhat pricey. It is important to have good outdoor gear, especially if you’re going camping deep in the wilderness. If you go to REI, or some similar professional outdoor camping gear company, you should be willing to spend a few hundred dollars to equip yourself at firs. Fortunately, the clothing and gear that you buy for your camping holidays is durable. Unless you lose or put on a lot of weight, you should be able to still use the same gear for years! Once you buy your equipment, you have to figure out what camps site you want to go to. I have always thought that it is good to start off slowly. If you make your first camping holiday too ambitious, something is bound to go wrong. Instead, you should go to a campsite with a short walk – say 2 or 3 miles at the most. There are still plenty of camping holidays where you can find some isolation with a 2 or 3 mile hike, but if you do need to get back to civilization, it is just around the corner.

Though you probably won’t find me camping any longer, I used to do it at least once a year with my husband. His band used to host a yearly festival, and we camped for the weekend leading up to the big show. They no longer do the festival, and during those years I learned to loath sleeping on the ground. I don’t mind camping so much as I mind what my back feels like in the morning. Being out with nature and spending the day around a fire with friends is great, but not being able to walk for a week is not something I want to go through again. I also learned that you have to buy special camping cookware when you go, and I learned this buy ruining most of my good pans. It seems like common sense, but when you are packing at the last minute, as I am known to do, you don’t think about such things as camping cookware. You just suddenly think that you need to take something with you, and you look through what you have in your own home. I had seen camping cookware in the store as we were preparing to go, but I saw no reason to spend the money on it. This was especially true when we weren’t sure how the festival was going to go, and we thought that might be the only time we went camping. When I used my home pots and pans as camping cookware I ruined quite a few things. One was my favorite boiling pot and I have not been able to replace it. This pot was something my mom gave me, and she had had it from many years before. It was something that was no longer made but it worked like a dream. Because I didn’t buy special camping cookware I had to take that with me. After just one day there were beans burned to the bottom, and I was never able to completely get the burned on stuff to come off. I had to throw it away. I have since looked at camping cookware but have had no reason to buy any. We don’t do the festival any longer, and we don’t go camping otherwise. Perhaps in the future when our family is older and we have more time we will go camping again, but for right now it’s not looking good. I will also have to get a really great camping bed along with the camping cookware or I’m just not going. I can go for a hike if I want to without cramping up my back for weeks. Until then, I know it’s out there if I need it, I just know I won’t be needing it any time soon.

Going camping is always a fun thing to do in the summer months regardless of how old you are. Children and adults alike love living off the land for a few days away from the noise and pollution that goes with city living. For most people, investing in a trailer just isn’t worth their while if they are only camping occasionally. For them, a tent is the way to go. Using camping air beds inside a tent allows for a much more comfortable sleeping experience. At some point in most of our lives we’ve been in a tent with just a sleeping bag between us and the hard cold ground. This is generally okay for one night but if it’s more than that, you’re probably going to begin to feel aches and pains in all kinds of places on your body. With camping air beds you have a much softer sleeping experience. In fact, with some of the higher quality camping air beds it feels very similar to your bed at home. Taking one of these with you is fairly simple. They aren’t heavy or awkward to carry. Most fold up into a small unit that you can easily bring along with your tent. Once you are at the campsite all that is required is you inflate the camping air beds and you’re all set. Using sheets or just sleeping bags is a matter of personal preference. In addition to the bed itself you can also purchase camping air pillows. They also provide extra comfort and are perfect neck support if you desire that. In terms of linens for camping air beds, use sheets that are designed for the size of the bed. For instance a queen size fitted sheet will fit very well on one of the queen size camping air beds. Don’t keep these packed away just for your yearly camping trips though. Many kids love having sleepovers with friends. If there aren’t enough beds the kids may end up having to sleep on a couch or the floor. If you have camping air beds you can set them up in the child’s room to provide a comfortable sleeping spot for their buddies. Just be sure the kids know not to jump up and down on the camping air beds. They can take a lot of weight, but that much pressure is never a good thing. Once in a while one may spring a leak. You can tell you have a problem fairly quickly after inflating it if this is the case. Don’t throw camping air beds with small holes away though. They can be easily fixed with a patching kit which only costs a few dollars. All you need to do is find the location of the hole, clean the area thoroughly and apply the patch. Once this is done the bed will be as good as new and all ready for the next family camping adventure.
